Welcome Package

Dear Chef,

Thank you so much for participating in Meatopia!  There will be BBQ, grilling, whole animals, caja china roasts, sausages, satays, stews, and every other kind of edible animal we can come up with.  There are no real facilities to speak of, so you need to bring all your stuff in the morning and take it out when you go, but it could be a really nice haul for a single day — not to mention that it’s the coolest BBQ event of all time.  It’ll be a lot of beef, a lot of fun, and a chance for people to discover how awesome Governors Island is.  See you there!

Yours truly,

Josh Ozersky, Jimmy Carbone, Robbie Richter and The Meatopia Team

——————————FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS——————————-

What is Meatopia?

The inaugural Meatopia event, co-hosted by James Beard Award winning food writer Josh Ozersky along with Taste of Tribeca Co-Chair and Good Beer Month Founder, Jimmy Carbone and master pit master Robbie Richter of Fatty ‘Cue, will feature a select group of 30+ top chefs and BBQ teams barbequing local and sustainable meats for one unforgettable summer day.

As the pinnacle event in Mayor Bloomberg’s “July Good Beer Month”, Meatopia is a food festival focusing and supporting the local community with walk-around tastings, beer, and live entertainment.

In the spirit of sustainability we ask that all participating chefs consider using meat from animals that have been raised responsibly and humanely.  Many chefs are pairing with a local farm to use products from regional farms.

Which Charities does Meatopia Support?

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Just Food, a nonprofit organization that advocates for access to affordable, natural foods; and Slow Food NYC, another nonprofit that supports sustainability in New York’s food systems.

The other 50% of all food sales will be split amongst cooking participants equally.
